Based on his enlistment records ... William resided in Lucus County, Ohio and was born in Ohio prior to the war. It is currently unknown why his headstone shows "Maryland" instead of "Ohio". He is also shown on NARA as being from Washington County, Maryland.

He enlisted in the Army on March 31, 1943 at Camp Perry, Lacarne, Ohio. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.

William was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
