Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until July 29, 1944, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Lloyd served as a Staff Sergeant & Ball Turret Gunner on B-17F "Exterminator" #42-30150, 412nd Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Simpson County, Mississippi prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 31, 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a professional and personal service attendant and also as Single, without dependents.

Lloyd was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was attacked by German Fighters near Lathen, Germany causing an onboard explosion and crashed at sea during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
