He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He was noted as being employed as a Stock Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by German flak over Munster, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
