Arne served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24H (#42-52105), 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Montana prior to the war.

Arne was "Killed In Action" when his B-24, after being damaged on a bombing mission to Germany, crashed into the North Sea during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

His remains were found on the beaches of the Friesche Wad near Ferwerd in the Netherlands in May 1944.
