Private William Elmer Baker: Born September 19, 1917 in Minneapolis MN, the only son of Mr. Lincoln Elmer Baker 1861-1947 and Mrs. Della Pearl (Stroup) Baker 1884-1962.
On 17 September 1944, the Airborne Division jumped into Holland during Operation "Market Garden", William lost his life due to enemy fire, on his 27th birthday 19 September 1944.

Pvt. William E. Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Baker. Born September 19, 1917, Minneapolis, Minnesota. United with the First Christian Church of St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1929. Entered the United States Army as a Volunteer on February 21, 1942. Stationed at Camp Tyson and Santa Monica in Barrage Balloon Training. After graduation served as Instructor. On November 8, 1943 his request for transfer To the Paratroopers was granted. Sent to France in May, 1944. Gave his life in action while participating in the Invasion of Holland on September 19, 1944.
