Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 4, 1945, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Francis served as a Private, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 9, 1943 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Single, with dependents.

Francis was declared "Missing In Action" in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest during the war.

He was awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart.
