SGT REPISCAK, JOSEPH P.From Chicago, Illinois.MIA 7-5-1945 as passenger/photographer (attached to the 95 BG Base Photo Section) of B-17G / #44-8640 / BG-'D'.This was the last 8th Air Force aircraft to be lost in action in WW2.Mission: Operation 'Chowhound', a food drop in the Utrecht area, the Netherlands. Despite a safe passage agreement in a specific corridor, this aircraft, slightly off course on the return flight to the UK, was fired on by German flak while flying over the German E-boat base at IJmuiden, the Netherlands.Encountering engine problems on this return flight the aircraft was forced to ditch in the North Sea, off Benacre Ness, Norfolk. 9 MIA / 2 RTD.
