Staff Sergeant Thomas M Power, Louisiana, Service Number: 18133662, flew as a waist gunner on B17s with the 401st Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group. On 31 Aug 1943, while assembling for a mission to bomb the Amiens – Glisy Aerodrome in France, in B17 #42-29816, "The Eager Beaver", the bomber collided with #41-24523 (also of the 91st). The tail snapped off and 9 crewmembers were killed when the remaining section of the aircraft crashed the Channel. Only the tail gunner survived and was quickly picked up by Air and Sea Rescue.
