Staff Sergeant James L Mitchell, Service Number: 37435353, flew as waist gunner on B-17s with the 367th Bomb Squadron, 306th Bomb Group. On 5 Jan 1944, for a mission to Kiel, Germany, Mitchell was one of eight crewmen killed shortly after take off in B-17 #42-30767, when it crash landed near base at Sharnbrook, UK.
