First Lieutenant John P McGuigan, Service Number: 0-804371, served as B-17 pilot with the 412nd Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group. According to the American Air Museum in Britain, on February 21, 1944, Lt. McGuigan was the pilot of B-17 #42-30634 'Liberty Belle'. "After leaving formation due to an engine fire on secondary mission to bomb airfields near Hanover, Germany on 21 Feb 1944, A/C was attacked by nine FW190s. Four crewman jumped before the a/c exploded and crashed in the North Sea." The 4 who became POWs after being rescued by Dutch fishermen. Six crewmen, including McGuigan, did not survive.
