Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 8, 1944, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Son of Mrs. Anna Kijek who resided in Stamford, Connecticut.

Frank served as a Apprentice Seaman, S.S. Henry R. Mallory, U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

The Henry R. Mallory, while in a convoy, was hit by one torpedo launched from German submarine U-402 southwest of Iceland and sank during the war. The ship lost 48 crewmen, 15 armed guards, and 208 passengers.

Frank was declared "Missing In Action" from the Henry R. Mallory.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Service # 2073863

Frank's brother, Benjamin Stanley Kijek, was also declared "Missing In Action" during the war while on the U.S.S. Juneau.
