He was a soldier for the Union Army and served until his death on Feb 3, 1862 at 32years of age. Family records state that he died of eating poisoned apples sent over by the Confederacy, when in fact he died of Measles. He was a school teacher in Ray Co., MO.


Died in Utica Missouri on 02-03-1862 He died while in service to the Union Army. 1st Sgt Co. F. Mercer Co.

John Harris Stewart with his parents Robert Stewart and his wife, Amy Kinman Ireland Stewart, have tombstones placed at Brummett Cemetery by family members but are actually buried in the now abandoned Old Union Cemetery.
