He was killed on D-Day-Liberation of North West Europe.The Normandy landings, codenamed Operation Neptune, were the landing operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, in Operation Overlord, during World War II. The landings commenced on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 (D-Day), beginning at 6:30 am British Double Summer Time (GMT+2).

B-24H 41-28838 E/C Misery Agent
Mission number 10 Took off at 0234 hours-June 6, 1944 and flew position 1-3 in 2nd Squadron carrying twelve 500 lb bombs but these were not dropped. It ran out of fuel and crashed and burned with wheels up in the Olde Woode at Corfe Castle near the English south coast killing all 9 on board.There were no airfields in the area.
Missing Air Crew Report reports location as Studland Battle Training Area, which is five miles south-east of Wareham.
