Carl, who resided at 402 North Union Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24H "Burns Away" #42-7494, 704th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on January 23, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted as Single, without dependents.

Carl was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, after taking off from Bungay, England, was hit by German ground Anti-Aircraft fire and crashed during the war.

He had served in the Air Corps for less than one year at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart. His remains were not recovered.
