Leonard served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24H "Shoo Shoo Baby" #41-28752, 785th Bomber Squadron, 466th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 7, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #41-28752 took off, with a crew of 10, from Attlebridge, England on a bombing mission. Shortly after takeoff the B-24 stalled out and crashed at the end of Runway 27 in a field near Hockering Heath. The fuel tanks exploded and then 2 of the thousand pound bombs went off. The entire crew was lost.

Leonard was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medals with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

His next of kin was noted as Thomas J. Connors who resided in Stratford, Connecticut.
