Arthur served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-17G #42-102961, 526th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Montana prior to the war.

Arthur was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17, while returning from a bombing mission, crashed into the sea due to damage done by enemy flak during the war. It was noted that 4 parachutes were seen leaving the B-17. He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
