Killed In Action Over Germany
S/Sgt. Jack C. Clackley Reported Missing In 1943; Now Listed As Dead
Staff Sgt. Jack C. Clackley, who was reported missing in action November 29, 1943, has been declared dead by the War Department. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles W. Clackley, was notified.
S/Sgt. Clackley, who was employed by Alabama Mills Co., joined the Air Corps in November, 1942, and arrived in England as a member of the crew of a Flying Fortress in September, 1943.
After five missions over enemy-occupied Continental Europe, the Fortress failed to return from a bombardment mission to Bremen, Germany, and he was reported missing.
The Air Medal was awarded to S/Sgt. Clackley in December, 1944, and was presented to his brother, Charles W. Clackley, at Brookley Field, Mobile.
S/Sgt. Clackley is survived by two brothers, Pfc. Charles W. Clackley, who is on Okinawa, and Buck Clackley, Greenville, and one sister, Mrs. Paul Thorpe, Valley Station, KY.
