William served as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on B-17 "Red Hot Riding Hood" #42-3223, 533rd Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 21, 1942 as an Aviation Cadet in Syracuse, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the Metal industry and also as Single, without dependents.

William died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-17 caught on fire, for an unknown reason, and exploded over Rattlesden Air Field, Rattlesden, England during the war.
