1st Lt.Brooks was in the U.S. Army Air Forces 327th Bomber Squadron, 92nd Bomber Group, Heavy~Service #: O-437931.
Brooks was flying a B-17 on a raid on Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on March 22, 1943, when the plane was attacked by German fighters. The plane was last seen, surrounded by German fighters, heading toward the Dutch border. No trace of the crew or plane was ever found.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
