Ivan served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-17G "Lily Marlene" #43-37976, 423rd Bomber Squadron, 306th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Bronx County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 8, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Insurance Salesmen and also as Single, with dependents.

Ivan was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17, after being battle damaged, was forced to ditch in the North Sea during the war. There are some military reports that hint at his B-17 being involved in a collision with B-17 #42-102683 which, if so, might have caused them to crash. B-17 #42-102683, however, recorded no loss of airmen from their plane.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.

Service # O-761395
