His plane, P-38 Lightning tail number 42-67051, "Spirit of Aberdeen", was shot down over Holland on 29 November 1943.
Originally reported as Missing in Action, but the addition of a 'rosette' by his name indicates that his remains were subsequently recovered and he rests now at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.
