Co-Pilot of B-17G Flying Fortress #44-8426.


Shot down by enemy fighters while on mission to Berlin and crashed at Wachow, Brandenburg, Germany. Four crewmembers were killed and four survived and taken as prisoners. One crewmember evaded capture. Missing Air Crew Report № 11719.

The mission was intercepted by over 100 enemy fighter aircraft, and the entire squadron was shot down.


Floyd M. Vevle joined the US Army Reserve as a private in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 4, 1942. His twin brother 1st Lieutenant Lloyd Oliver Vevle also served as a bomber pilot with the US Army Air Corps and was killed in action over Germany on September 28, 1944.


1st Lt. Vevle was initially buried at the community cemetery of Wachow on 16 January 1945. During the disinterment of American casualties at this cemetery, his remains were never found.
