Laverne served as a Private in the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Dansville, Livingston County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 17, 1943 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the production of grain-mill products and also as Married.

He was "Killed In Action" in the Battle of the Bulge, Belgium during the war.

He was awarded a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
