Cpl Tec5 Robert H. Barnes, 21, son of Mr. & Ms. P.H. Barnes, 244 Lawrence Street, East Kingsford, Michigan, was seriously wounded in action in Belgium in January. He serves with a unit of Paratroopers.
Cpl Tec5 Barnes, was inducted into the United States Armed Forces January 15, 1943 & ws sent overseas several months after is training in this country. He saw action in France, Italy & Belgium.
The young soldier was a student at Quinnesec high School & was employed in Manitowoc, Wisconsin before entering the service

BATTLE WOUNDS CAUSE DEATH OF CPL. BARNES
Wounds which he suffered in action in Belgium on January 15 caused the death the following day of Cpl Tec5 Robert H. Barnes. His parents are working in a Chicago War Plant. He is a nephew of Chester Carl, & a grandson of Mrs. Lydia Carl, both of 324 Withworth Avenue, East Kingsford.
A memorial for the young soldier will be offered the 1st of the week in the Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago.
Cpl Tec5 Barnes was born in Missouri where his family lived for sometime before moving to East Kingsford
During the 12 months that he was on active service in the European Theater of the war, Cpl Tec5 Barnes saw action in practically all major battles in Africa, Italy, France & Belgium.
He is survived by his parents, 2 brothers: James C., 25, serving in the Army Air Force, Albert & a sister, Lee.
Memorial masses will also be offered at Church of American Martyrs, East Kingsford.
