Son of Mr. J. & Mrs. Blanche L. Sharer who resided at 824 Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland.

John served as a Flight Officer & Bombardier on B-25J #42-27720, Headquarters Squadron, 515th Air Service Group, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

B-25J #42-27720, a new B-25J, was on its way from the U.S. to be assigned to the 448th Bomber Squadron, 321st Bomber Group.

He resided in Washington County, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 22, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Photoengraver and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25J #42-27720 took off from Mallard Field, Dakar, Senegal on a ferrying mission to Roberts Field, Monrovia, Liberia. They disappeared on this flight and are believed to have crashed in the Mediterranean Sea for an unknown reason.

John was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash.

He had previously been awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.
