Staff Sergeant Wendell Potter, 29, was killed during an air flight over Greece on October 5, 1943. A native of Syracuse, NY, he was an aerial gunner on a B-25 Mitchell Bomber during World War II. He was awarded posthumously the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
