Sunk in European Waters Last November.

A telegram has been received by Mrs. James M. Neal, of Kershaw, from the War Department, stating that her husband Pvt. James M. Neal had been listed as having made the supreme sacrifice for his country on November 27, 1943.
Pvt. Neal had been listed as missing in action since November 26, and in a previous letter from the War Department, Mrs. Neal had learned that he was a passenger on an Allied troop ship that was sunk in European Waters and that 1,000 American soldiers on it were unaccounted for. The letter stated that the ship was struck by the enemy at night and sank rapidly in a heavy sea.

Pvt. Neal is survived by his wife, the former Mrs. Annie Mae Horton Neal, and little son, James Jr., of Kershaw; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Neal of Heath Springs; six sisters, Mrs. Varto Hilton and Miss Mary Neal of Lancaster; Mrs. Walter Cauthen of Kershaw, Mrs. Seymour Adams and Mrs. Baxter Kennington of Baltimore and Mrs. Wade Small of Primus, and three brothers, Johnnie, Oscar, Jr., and Jack Neal, all of Heath Springs.
