He enlisted in the Army on September 29, 1941, prior to the war, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

He was killed in a plane crash near Oran, Africa while serving as a co-pilot. It is believe that only three members of the crew perished in this crash as listed below.

William had served in the Air Corps for one year and six months at the time of his death and was previously decorated with an Air Medal.

Second Lieutenant William J McLoughry Jr., born 31 Jul 1919, was the son of William Joseph McLoughry and Marta Helen (White) McLoughry of Philadelphia, PA.
In the 1920 census 5-month-old William is living with his parents at 6509 Woodland Ave., in Philadelphia. His father is a salesman.
William's father died 27 Nov 1926 at age 46 from cardiac issues. His mother remarried Arthur G Livingston 28 Aug 1936 in Dover, Kent County, Delaware.
No 1930 or 1940 census listings for William.
William enlisted in the Army on September 29, 1941, prior to the war, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.
William married Doris Minerva Herdman 8 Feb 1942 in Dover, Kent County, DE.
The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Delaware show McLoughry, William J., 2 Lt from Kent County as killed in action 29 Nov 1942. William's plane was shot down near Oran on the north coast of Algeria.
William J McLoughry, III was born 31 Jan 1943, two months after his father was killed.
Doris remarried Beverly Early Davis, Jr., 19 Sep 1945. They had two children. She passed away in 1992.
