Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until October 14, 1944, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Lloyd served as a Fireman First Class, U.S.S. Bristol (DD-453), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Silver Spring, Montgomery County, Maryland prior to the war.

The Bristol, while escorting a convoy to Oran, Algeria, was struck on the port side at the forward engine room by a single torpedo from U-boat U-371 commanded by Waldemar Mehl. The Bristol was broken in half by the single explosion and sank. The Bristol suffered the loss of 52 of her crew.

Lloyd was declared "Missing In Action" in this sinking during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
