Joseph's remains, along with the rest of his crew, were recovered in 2000 and they were interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Joseph served as a Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner B-26 #41-17759 "Horse Feathers", 437th Bomber Squadron, 319th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Northampton County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 26, 1941, prior to the war, in Newark, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Laboratory technician and/or assistant and also as Single, without dependents.

Joseph was first declared "Missing In Action" and after his remains were recovered his status was changed to "Killed In Action".

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
