As the New York Times article, from June 1945, reported, she and 17 other Wacs disappeared on May 30, 1945. They were flying from Accra, in what was then known as British West Africa, but today is located in Ghana. The flight was planned to land at Roberts Field in Monrovia, Liberia, but was last reported over Takoradi, in British West Africa (now Ghana). After an intensive search by air and by land no trace of the plane (or the people in it) was ever found. The crew of three and the 18 passengers all simply disappeared without a trace. If you look at these three locations on the map, that being Accra and Takoradi in Ghana, and Monrovia in Liberia, the first two are located near the ocean but there does not appear to be any reason for the plane to have been traveling over the ocean. But apparently it must have been doing so and went down.
