Richard served as a Sergeant, 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" in the Battle of Anzio, Italy during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He also has a "Cenotaph" in the Northwood Ridge Cemetery, Northwood, New Hampshire.
