PFC Covert Furman was lost at sea during the sinking of the liberty ship SS Paul Hamilton and associated flankers on April 20, 1944. The sinking of this ship resulted in 580 casualties, one of which was Covert Furman. PFC Furman gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country, and many years after his tragic loss, he is remembered by those from his home in Tremont, PA as a loyal friend.

He is pictured here in uniform as a member of the USAAF's 32nd Photographic Squadron -5th Reconnaissance Group. He was the son of Mr. Asher K. and Mrs. Elizabeth S. (nee Young)Furman of Tremont. Covert was the brother to Austin and Glenn.
