Frieda's parents were Anna Frances Reilly (May 2, 1881 in Brooklyn, NY to Feb. 2, 1965 in Levittown, NY) and Frederick (Fred) Nickolaus Bernhard (aka N. B.) Blanck (Apr. 13, 1883 in Lehe, Bremerhaven, Germany to Oct. 4, 1973 in New Hyde Park, NY). Fred had immigrated on June 10, 1897 (at age 15) and they had married in Ridgewood, Queens, NY on Nov. 26, 1905.

Their eight children included: Katherine Bertha (1907), Anna Grace (1909-1910), Emma M. (Feb. 6, 1911), Wilhelmina (1913), Dorothy Mary (Oct. 3, 1914), Frieda C. (late 1915), Pvt. Frederick Bernhard, Jr. (Dec. 3, 1916 to Feb. 25, 1982 in CT) & Martha E. (1924).

Frieda appears in the 1920 census as as 4-yr-old "Freda" C. Blanck living in Queens at 2551 Myrtle Ave. Her father was a clerk at the delicatessen. She appears in the 1925 census as 9-yr-old Frieda Blanck living in Queens at 2461 Woodbine St. She appears in the 1930 census as 14-yr-old Frieda "Blanda" living in Queens at 60-67 Woodbine St. She appears in the 1940 census as 24-yr-old Frieda "Blanch" living in Queens at 60-65 Woodbine St. with her parents. She had completed her 3rd year of high school and was an "Alarm Operator" in the "Burglar Protection" business.

In June 1943, 27-yr-old Frieda married her nearby neighbor, 23-yr-old Roy James Anthony Friend (b. Jan. 20, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY). Eleven months later, Frieda enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) on May 24, 1944. She was then promoted to the rank of Private First Class.

She died a year and six days after she enlisted. She was about 29.5 years old. Although Frieda had listed her mother as her next of kin, she was still the wife of Roy Friend when she died, 23 months after their marriage.
