James served as a Second Lieutenant in the 6th Infantry Battalion, 1st Armored Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided at 94 Glendale Park, Rochester, Monroe County, New York & was a member of the Army Reserve prior to the war.

He was "Killed In Action" in the Battle of Tunisia, North Africa during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Service Cross" and the Purple Heart.
