Maurice's remains, along with the rest of his crew, were recovered in 2000 and they were interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Maurice served as a Sergeant & Gunner on a B-26 #41-17759 "Horse Feathers", 437th Bomber Squadron, 319th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Middlesex County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 13, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, without dependents.

B-26 #41-17759 took off, along with 6 other B-26's and a crew of 6, from Telergma on a bombing mission near the El Aouina airport at Tunis, Tunisia. While over the target they were hit by ground and ship based anti-aircraft fire and crashed in the Tunis Harbor. The entire crew was lost in this crash. The other 6 B-26's returned to base safely.

Maurice was first declared "Missing In Action" and after his remains were recovered his status was changed to "Killed In Action".

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Maurice Louis Cohen was the son of Samuel S. and Sarah Ethel (Coppelman) Cohen. He was KIA when his plane was shot down in World War II. The wreckage was found in 2000; Maury's identified remains were buried in Home of Peace Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County, California (#147903031). Maury's unidentified remains are with his crew mates', in a group grave in Arlington National Cemetery (#7423952). An earlier memorial was created for the planes crew in the North Africa American Cemetery & Memorial, Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia (#56246230).
