Son of James Colin & Catherine (Kate) (nee O'Donnell) Sackley. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 19 October 1915 and embarked from Sydney for active service abroad on 1 April 1916 per SS "Makarini". He was killed in action, aged 24 years.
