Alexander Phipps TURNBULL was born in Dardanup W.A., being Grandson of Sir James Lee- Steere. Alexander went to Hale School then Perth High School and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1907. He then went to Merton College, Oxford University in England to study Law. Phipps, as he was then known, was a keen sportsman, representing Oxford in Rowing and Football. During his tenure at Oxford, Phipps served with King Edward's Horse Regiment for 3 years, before graduating in Jurisprudence ( Law ) in 1910, with First Class Honours.
Phipps was admitted to the Bar in England in 1911. He later returned to Western Australia to practice as a Barrister/Solicitor with the Perth Law Firm, Parker and Parker.
Alexander Phipps TURNBULL enlisted for War Service on 5 October 1914, before transfer to the action at Gallipoli where he was tragically killed at The NEK, Walkers Ridge, Anzac, Gallipoli on 7 August 1915.
