Wesley W. Worthington received the Purple Heart for his service as Electrician's Mate, Second Class, aboard the USS Gudgeon. The Gudgeon was allegedly sunk during its 12th patrol via air attack on 18 April 1944. Location was somewhere off Iwo Jima.
