Entered the service from California.

From the "Oakland Tribune", Oakland, California newspaper dated 26 August 1942: "Alemedan Missing On Plane". C. O. Walton, Aviation Machinist, Member Of Patrol Ship Crew. An Alemeda man is among the 11 officers and 3 enlisted Navy men missing on a flight from Kodiak, Alaska to Seattle, the Navy Department announced today. He is Charles O. Walton, 25, and aviation machinist mate. His wife Christine, lives at 570 Cushing Court, Alemeda. The huge Navy patrol plane was in a squadron of three that ran into bad weather during the flight. Two of the craft made it to Whitehorse, Alaska and landed safely but the plane in which Walton was flying has been unreported. Navy patrol planes and other agencies joined the search for the missing aircraft. Walton re-enlisted in the Navy in January at his home in Oklahoma City, and was transferred to the Alemeda Naval Air Station soon afterward".
