Norman served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24D "Mammy Yokum" (#42-40221), 424th Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Oklahoma prior to the war.

B-24D "Mammy Yokum" (#42-40221) was on a ferrying trip from Bomber 2 Airfield to Guadalcanal with a crew of 5 and 10 passengers.

Norman died in the "Line Of Duty" when the B-24 he was on, after taking off from Bomber 2 Airfield, New Hebrides, developed engine trouble and had to ditch in the bay close to the Airfield during the war.

A total of 6 perished during this flight and 9 survived.
