Paul served as a Sergeant & Right Waist Gunner on B-29 "Country Gentleman" #42-24793, 482nd Bomber Squadron, 505th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 9, 1944 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a General industry clerk and also as Married.

B-29 "Country Gentleman" #42-24793 was one of 472 B-29s that took off from Tinian on an incendiary bombing mission against the urban area north of Nagoya. They had to ditch off of Iwo Jima due to a lack of fuel. Out of a crew of 11 only 6 were later rescued.

Paul was declared "Missing In Action" in this incident during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
