Son of Marshall Eugene Darby, Sr. [1895-1954] and Anna Ruth (Klotz) Darby [1895-1994]

Graduated from the Naval Academy on June 6, 1940.

Ensign Darby served in the battleship USS Oklahoma (BB 37) until he was killed in action during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. His remains were never recovered.

USS Darby (DE 218) (1943-1968) was the first ship named in his honor.
