David served as a Seaman, First Class, U.S.S. Utah (BB-31), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

U.S.S. Utah was moored off Ford Island in berth F-11 and was sunk in the Attack on Pearl Harbor during the war.

In total, 64 officers and men were killed and/or missing from the Utah.

David was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
