He was the son of David Nicol and Mary (Landry) Nicol.
Nicol served with the 11th Air Force, 28th Bombardment Group, 404th Bombardment Squadron and he was the co-pilot of B-24D #41-1104, nicknamed 'Iggy'. They were on a training flight out of Adak Island, Alaska when they had some kind of mechanical problem and went down in the ocean, 80 miles North-Northeast of the island. None of the crew was located.
He is also memorialized on the Memorial To The Missing in Anchorage Alaska.
