Raymond served as a Technical Sergeant & Engineer on B-24J #42-73499, 431st Bomber Squadron, 11th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Merrimack County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on June 5, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in construction and also as Single, without dependents.

Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was attacked by 8-10 Zero's and was hit in the no 1 and no 2 engines causing the B-24 to ditch approximately 25 miles off Saipan during the war. Two crew members were seen to bail out.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
