His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, from Gardiner, Maine. He was noted, at that time, as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Single, without dependents.
Simon died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.
He had previously been awarded the "Bronze Star".
He was buried at sea.
