Captain Lawson was the pilot of B-29A
Superfortress #44-83899, serving with the
402nd Bomber Squadron, 502nd Bomb Group,
20th Air Force, World War II.

He was one of ten airmen killed when his airplane
crashed, five miles northeast of Isley Field,
on Saipan Island.

The crew members killed were:

1st Lt. Bernard P Beine
1st Lt. Lawrence C Honeycutt, Jr
1st Lt. Robert Rex Kindig
1st Lt. Hartphey Haller
T/Sgt. Orval N Myrick
S/Sgt. Chester Skorupa
