George, who resided in Ocean View, Delaware, served as a Gunner's Mate Third Class with the U.S.S. Halligan (DD-584), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was declared "Missing In Action" when the Halligan struck a mine off Okinawa and was sunk during the war.

He had served in the Navy for two years and three months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
