Major Roberts was the Aircraft Commander of U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-50-BW
Superfortress #42-24785, nicknamed "Homing De-Vice." Perished when the bomber
was shot down by enemy Ki-61 fighter while on mission to Nagoya, Japan, and
crashed into the Pacific Ocean with the loss of all eleven crew. With the 500th
Bomb Group, 882nd Bomb Squadron.
